❥ Pit Bull Health for your Properly Feed Your Pit Bull ❥
Proper feeding of your Pit Bull will not only keep them looking healthy, but will also help them avoid common health problems such as joint problems. Bulls are active dogs that need a lot of exercises. If they are overweight, exercise can put additional pressure on their bodies and internal systems, which can cause serious problems.
In the same line of thinking, and underweight dog can also get sick due to not eating a well-balanced diet. Keeping your Pit Bull Terrier at a healthy weight requires you to reflect on what you are feeding, how much you are feeding, and an understanding of your dog’s energy requirements. nutritional needs.
This is a “trial and error” process that requires some experimentation to get it right.
❥ How to keep your Pit Bull at the correct weight ❥
The proper weight for your dog is unique to your dog. In other words, while my dogs weigh 65 pounds and 68 pounds in peak condition their proper walk around the weight is slightly heavier.
You learn this information through trial and error.
Two things you should do before you start getting your dog in shape First, take your dog to the vet and get a full checkup to make sure they are in good health, to begin with. Second, keep them on the same diet, but increase their exercise.
Some people make the mistake of cutting back on food and increasing exercise. This is not healthy. If you’re going to take them out and start conditioning, keep the same food intake, but increase exercise gradually.
For example, if they get 2 cups of food and a walk a day. They still need to get 2 cups of food, even if they get 2 walks a day. You are with me?
❥ Feed Free or Not ❥
I started feeding my daughters for free because I didn’t know any better at the time. I don’t recommend free feeding for three reasons:
- They can pick up on food all day.
- They can eat after exercise (they should not eat for at least 30 minutes after a walk or other exercise)
- They don’t eat when you don’t have free food.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t eat free. If you want, then by all means go ahead. I personally don’t do it anymore.
Setting a feeding time:
- Feed them a little at a time 2 to 4 times a day. If you feed 2 cups of food, divide that by half a cup or less.
- Set an exact time and stick to it.
You can divide your cups into as many smaller cups as you like and give them to your dog at specific times.
An advantage of this is that you can use this time to help train your dog.
Maintaining the weight of your dogs is an important issue. By setting a feeding time, you can better control the situation and ensure that your dog receives the right amount of food at the right time.
Think of it this way …
Let’s imagine you have two small children. Instead of eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, snack ALL DAY between meals.
Do you think they will eat the food you prepare for them? Odds are, no. They will be full.
By setting how long your dog eats, you have more control over the whole situation.
❥ Treats and other snacks ❥
I see treats just like the example above. If I give my girls a stalker stick in the morning, I cut their food by a quarter or two because the stalker stick is in their bellies.
I try to keep the treats to a minimum of one treat every other day.
I use dry liver for training from time to time, and when I do, I cut my food back a little at mealtime. Although not too much.
What I mean here is that if your dog eats treats all day and you feed them the same amount of food that he actually consumes. adding more food to his diet that day. What can increase your weight?
Keep treats to a minimum for an optimal diet.
❥ Pit Bull Health – Diet Summary ❥
You can feed freely or set a feeding time. The choice is up to you. The point of this article was to share with you the different ideas and approaches to keeping your Pit Bull at a healthy weight.
With that in mind, monitoring your dogs‘ food intake and reducing the number of treats they eat on a daily basis will help keep your dog at his proper weight.
Healthy dogs look skinny to most people. Think of it this way, the more weight your dog has to carry, they will have to carry the same amount of weight when exercising and playing.
Do you each gain a few pounds and try to run or exercise the same amount you did when you were lighter?
It was not easy? It’s not for your dog either. So keep their food intake to a decent amount (1-2 cups per day for dry food) and get them plenty of exercises. They will have a much longer and healthier life in the end.
